New Year, New Designs

2026 is underway and so are the new dog head designs!

A few weeks ago, someone kindly reminded me that I had forgotten a breed. The Boykin Spaniel!
The Boykin Spaniel may be less common, but doesn't mean it should be left out. So I got to working. The first version, a silhouette, looked like this.
Kinda just looks like a generic spaniel silhouette. So I made a color version, like I did for the other breeds.

Ok...now it's a brown spaniel. I noticed when a dog is a single color, it's more difficult to make it distinguishable. What if I did a sitting one...

Ok, better? But small details and thin lines don't embroider well. I needed to think about this for a second.
So I pulled up a bunch of pictures of the Boykin Spaniel and found out Stephen Colbert actually has one named Benny!

I stared at this picture and asked myself, what is a distinct feature of the Boykin?
I decided it's the head and the curly long ears. And so here's what I drew up in the end.
It will look different embroidered, but zooming in on just the head should make the lines thick enough to produce quality embroidery.

Thank you to the person who commented and suggested the Boykin Spaniel! I'm not sure how big the market is for Boykin lovers, but it was a nice challenge and I developed a real appreciation for these little (but mighty) brown dogs in the process.

This quest is also inspiring me to make more designs of just the dog head. I think it will allow slightly more detail than full body designs. And with the limitations of embroidery/real estate of a hat, maybe the heads will be well suited.

I've added 11 new dog head designs so far. You can check them out here.

Thanks for reading!
